From a Single Board to an Entire Supply Chain: Lanshan’s “Old” Wood Industry Embarks on a Path of Renewal

“The Linyi Wood Expo is the most comprehensive, offering a full range of products; we come every year,” said Li Xiaobo, a buyer from Sichuan, at the 15th Linyi Wood Expo held recently.

In addition to traditional panel materials, what particularly drew Li Xiaobo at this year’s exhibition were emerging products and services—such as green new materials, intelligent manufacturing equipment, and innovative whole‑home decoration solutions. As new productivity‑driving factors continue to integrate into the industry, Linyi’s wood‑working sector is trending toward high-end sophistication, green practices, innovation, integration, and systemization. Last year, the Sichuan general distributor for Li Xiaobo’s company generated nearly RMB 100 million in sales through the show, and this year he hopes to identify more partner manufacturers in Linyi.

As the core hub of China’s “Capital of Wood Panels,” Lanshan District boasts a wood‑industry development history spanning more than three decades. From its humble beginnings—small, family‑run workshops producing panel products—to the present day, driven by the rise of new‑type productive forces, the sector has steadily advanced, with technological innovation at its core and industrial parks serving as key platforms, thereby transitioning from a focus on “scale advantages” to “quality, technology, and brand advantages.”

Shortly after the exhibition opened, the Xingang Group’s booth was already bustling with visitors. The technology zone, in particular, showcased the group’s more than 30 international environmental certifications and nine industry-first innovations. Among these, Xingang Bionic Adhesive stands as the group’s flagship technology—a pioneering bionic green adhesive that contains zero formaldehyde, zero benzene, and no harmful additives, widely used in settings such as hospitals and schools.

“At present, this technology has been upgraded to version 3.0 and has been successfully incorporated into the Guoxi Stable‑Core Board and Guoxi Ultra‑Clean Board showcased at this event. From the board itself to the entire living space, it builds multiple layers of protection for home health,” said Wei Xiaoxin, Chairman of Xingang Group.

For 34 years, Xingang has remained firmly rooted in and dedicated to the wood industry. Upholding a steadfast commitment to quality and driving innovation, it has expanded its panel products to over 100 countries and regions. Notably, its research and industrialization project on key technologies for bionic eco‑friendly panels was awarded the First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress by Shandong Province, marking the first time in China that a company in the panel industry has led the way in securing such a provincial-level honor.

Industry brands such as Knosbon and Fugang Wood Industry also made their debut at this year’s exhibition. As a traditional pillar industry in Lanshan District, the wood products sector currently boasts 472 large-scale enterprises spanning high-end panel manufacturing and the green smart home‑furnishing value chain. In the past, fragmented enterprise locations and a highly dispersed industrial chain were hallmark challenges for this conventional industrial cluster. To address these issues, Lanshan District has embarked on the construction of a high-standard Wood Products Industry Enhancement Zone, covering a total area of 6,500 mu. Focusing on two key strategic pillars—intelligent wood manufacturing and fully finished home furnishings—the zone is driving enterprises to consolidate within the park, facilitating industrial upgrading and restructuring to create a more cohesive and efficient spatial layout.

Currently, most projects in the park have entered the interior‑fitout phase, with concentrated delivery and commissioning expected around year‑end. “The park has moved away from a simplistic model of merely clustering enterprises, instead adopting an integrated approach that coordinates standard factory buildings, shared infrastructure, science‑and‑technology innovation platforms, and logistics systems,” said Li Xiuyu, Party Secretary of Yitang Town. “We are guiding companies to undertake digital transformation and upgrade their smart production lines, thereby seamlessly connecting the entire value chain—from board material production and surface‑finishing processing to whole‑house customization.”

In addition, Lanshan District has established a dedicated task force for the high-end panel and green smart home industries, formulated the “Lanshan District Plan for Upgrading and Developing the High-End Panel and Green Smart Home Industries,” and developed industry chain maps, spatial planning diagrams, and investment‑attraction roadmaps. By consistently strengthening innovation‑driven development, enhancing brand value, and expanding into overseas markets, the district is advancing the wood‑processing sector from isolated, stand‑alone operations toward clustered, chain‑based growth, thereby fostering an integrated industrial ecosystem.
