The “2026 Global Legal and Sustainable Timber Summit (GLSTF 2026)” opened in Macao on the 22nd, under the theme “Innovation and Transformation—Exploring New Pathways for a Resilient and Sustainable Global Timber Industry,” drawing key stakeholders from the forestry, timber, and home‑furnishing sectors across 49 countries and regions to engage in high‑quality dialogue and collaboration.

In his address, Mr. Xie Yongqiang, Chairman of the Macao Special Administrative Region’s Investment Promotion Bureau, stated that the GLSTF has evolved into a key platform for international dialogue and cooperation. This year’s edition boasts even greater diversity in participation, further enhancing the forum’s global reach, reinforcing Macao’s role and contributions, highlighting the city’s unique platform advantages, and facilitating the identification of collaborative business opportunities among all stakeholders.

Sham Satkurun, Executive Director of the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), noted that ITTO has long been committed to advancing the sustainable management of tropical forests and promoting the legal and sustainable trade of tropical timber and wood products, having implemented more than 1,400 projects across tropical regions. He expressed hope that this forum would focus on strengthening trust, transparency, and connectivity, thereby empowering supply-chain stakeholders.

On the first day of GLSTF 2026, a成果发布会 was held, unveiling six international and Macao‑based collaborative initiatives spanning industrial governance, data metrics, technological applications, and standard‑setting. The International Supply Chain Green Transformation Cooperation and Innovation Center, initiated by Macao’s industry associations and enterprises, was officially inaugurated, and work commenced on drafting the “Macao Green Standards Management System” and the “Biomass Aviation Fuel Standard.” On the forum’s opening day, two significant agreements were signed—covering an industry trading platform and a digital smart platform for green procurement—with a combined value of approximately MOP 2 billion.

The forum hosted high-level dialogue sessions focusing on three core themes—“The Timber Industry in a Changing Global Landscape,” “Transforming Industry and Trade to Build Supply Chain Resilience,” and “Innovation-Driven Pathways to Sustainable Development in the Timber Sector”—to catalyze transformative change and foster innovative growth. Concurrently, four specialized sub-forums were held, and for the first time, the “Macao International Investment and Financing Project Matchmaking Event for Sustainable Development” was organized, alongside numerous side events, to facilitate investment matchmaking and technology exchange.

It is reported that the Sustainable Forestry Exhibition held concurrently brought together forestry authorities, industry associations, and timber enterprises from mainland China, Macao, as well as Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking countries including Brazil, Ecuador, and Mexico, thereby leveraging Macao’s role as a “precision liaison” between China and Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking nations to foster international exchanges and commercial cooperation.
