In the first quarter, Russia’s timber transportation increased by 33.1% compared with the previous quarter.

The Federal Forestry Agency of the Russian Federation recently released timber transportation statistics for the first quarter of 2026. Total timber shipments during the quarter reached 82 million cubic meters, up approximately 33.1% from the 61.6 million cubic meters recorded in the fourth quarter of 2025.

During the same period, the electronic transport document system recorded the following operational data: a total of 2.4 million electronic documents were generated within three months, with an average daily timber transport volume of approximately 880,000 cubic meters.

Pyotr Mikka, Head of the Department for the Development of Information Systems and the State Forest Register at the Federal Forestry Agency of the Russian Federation, noted that since the National Information System for the Forestry Complex (FGIS LK) was launched nearly a year and a half ago, more than 10 million electronic transport accompanying documents (ESD) have been generated, corresponding to a total timber transport volume of 366.3 million cubic meters. Mikka specifically pointed out that the peak period for issuing these electronic documents traditionally coincides with the winter logging season.

The system continuously refines the timber‑trade statistical database, and the peak months for document circulation closely coincide with the winter period of intensive timber harvesting.

Furthermore, according to data from the Northwestern Interregional Administration of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of the Russian Federation, during the first four months of this year, Vologda Oblast recorded a significant increase in its exports of forest products to Uzbekistan, with export volumes reaching 18,600 cubic meters—up 46% year-on-year from 12,700 cubic meters in the same period of 2025, representing a net increase of 5,900 cubic meters.

The export product structure is dominated by softwood lumber, among which… Spruce 8,100 cubic meters, Pine wood 6,100 cubic meters. All quarantined and regulated products have undergone laboratory testing and comply with Uzbekistan’s phytosanitary requirements; inspectors from the authority have supervised a total of over 400 shipments.
