To effectively strengthen safety production management in the town’s wood-processing industry and rigorously prevent the risk of spreading the pine wood nematode disease, the Emergency Management Office of Zhengcun Town, She County, recently joined forces with the town’s Forestry Workstation to form a special inspection team. The team conducted a comprehensive inspection and remediation campaign covering all wood-processing plants within the jurisdiction, focusing on workplace safety and the identification and removal of infested timber affected by the pine wood nematode disease.

The inspection team conducted thorough on-site inspections of production workshops, raw-material stockpiles, and finished-product warehouses at various enterprises, focusing on two key areas. With regard to workplace safety, inspectors meticulously examined the availability of fire-fighting equipment, compliance with electrical wiring standards, and the unobstructed status of emergency escape routes. In response to identified issues—such as expired fire extinguishers, unauthorized and haphazard wiring, and untimely removal of wood chips—the team issued on-the-spot rectification notices, mandating corrective action within a specified timeframe. The team also urged enterprise leaders to maintain constant vigilance over safety and to resolutely prevent any “operation while equipment is faulty.”

During the inspection of epidemic wood affected by pine wilt disease, forestry technical personnel rigorously verified the source documentation, purchase ledgers, and product traceability records of wood processing plants, with a particular focus on whether there had been any unauthorized acquisition, processing, storage, or use of wood originating from epidemic areas. Pine wood and related processing activities. At the same time, business owners were briefed on-site about the harmful effects of pine wood nematode disease and the relevant laws and regulations for its prevention and control, with emphasis on the need to operate in strict compliance with the law and regulations, the absolute prohibition of any form of trade in infested timber, and the effective disruption of human-mediated transmission pathways of the epidemic.

This joint operation inspected a total of 20 wood-processing enterprises, identifying and assigning eight safety hazards and non-compliant phytosanitary management issues related to infested timber, of which three were rectified on-site. Moving forward, the town’s emergency management and forestry authorities will establish a regularized coordination mechanism, continuously increase the frequency and intensity of oversight, conduct follow-up reviews of corrective actions, ensure closed-loop management of identified risks, and steadfastly uphold the bottom line of workplace safety and the red line for forestry ecological security, thereby fostering a safe and stable environment that supports the town’s high-quality economic and social development.
