At the start of the new year, the Datong Industrial Park in Tunchang County—a unique national-approved demonstration zone for integrated industry and urban development in Hainan Province and also a provincial-level development zone—is bustling with activity. Key project construction is accelerating, and enterprises are experiencing robust production and operations, showcasing a vibrant and promising new atmosphere for the coming year.

The Datong Industrial Park is a key platform for the development of industries in Tun Chang. The Fucheng Industrial Park serves as a crucial link in extending and strengthening Tun Chang’s timber and food-processing industries. Its fine-wood processing zone began operations in July 2024, and its modern livestock and poultry slaughtering and processing facility started production in April 2025. This project has not only broken the zero barrier in Tun Chang’s import and processing of raw materials but has also effectively boosted local employment. These two seemingly unrelated projects are both owned by the same investor—the Fucheng Investment Group, headquartered in Hebei Province. The group has established Fucheng Industry (Hainan) Co., Ltd. in Tun Chang and plans to invest 500 million yuan in the two projects mentioned above.

Cen Jian, the factory director of Fucheng Industrial (Hainan) Co., Ltd., stated that, to date, the output value of our wood finishing project has already exceeded 20 million yuan. From the project’s inception to its full-scale production, it has created numerous employment opportunities for local workers. Currently, our wood finishing project employs 150 people. By 2026, we hope to double, or even triple, our current output value.

Why did you choose Tunchang? “It was Tunchang’s industrial layout and geographic advantages that attracted us,” said Zhang Yu, General Manager of Fucheng Industrial (Hainan) Co., Ltd.

In recent years, Tun Chang has leveraged its industrial foundation and resource endowments to accelerate the implementation of an industrial spatial layout featuring “One Park, Three Zones, and Two Centers”—namely, the Datong Industrial Park, the Green, Low-Carbon, and Circular Economy Zone, the New Stone Materials and Construction Materials Zone, the Deep-Processing Zone for Forest Products, the Regional Center for Specialty Agricultural Products, and the Traditional Chinese Medicine-based Wellness and Health Tourism Center. By rationally planning industrial layouts and precisely attracting investment, Tun Chang is helping to drive high-quality economic development at the county level.

The deep-processing forestry industry zone is one of Tun Chang’s “three zones.” It can fully leverage the policies of the Hainan Free Trade Port to attract leading companies in the industry, thereby building a modern forestry industrial cluster that boasts large-scale operations, a comprehensive product lineup, and strong brand competitiveness.

From the perspective of resource endowment, Tun Chang boasts abundant forest resources, with a forest coverage rate reaching 73.11%. There are over 700 species of trees, among which more than 200 are major economic tree species and have been designated as national commercial timber.

From a geographical perspective, Tun Chang serves as a transportation hub that connects north and south and links east and west, offering extremely convenient transportation access. Local raw timber can be supplied “right across the wall,” which is precisely what gives Tun Chang the confidence to develop a high-value-added forest products processing industrial zone.

By strategically planning industrial layouts to "build nests and attract phoenixes," Tunchang has already attracted dozens of enterprises, including Fucheng Group and Hainan Junjian, which produce a variety of goods such as furniture, man-made boards, construction materials, and wooden handicrafts, making it an important hub for the entire province. Plywood Production base. “The Fucheng Industrial Park project is planned for a site of 283 mu, of which the wood-processing plant covers an area of over 30,000 square meters. The plant primarily manufactures high-end wooden furniture, plywood, and other products, with an annual processing capacity reaching 40,000 cubic meters,” Zhang Yu introduced.

Relevant officials from the special task force for investment promotion in Tun Chang County introduced that, leveraging the county’s abundant forest resources and the demand for forest renewal in the central ecological conservation zone, they are developing a deeply processed forestry industry chain. In the midstream, the focus will be on developing sawn timber. Single board industries such as engineered wood products; the downstream sector will focus on developing high-end wooden consumer goods, wooden furniture manufacturing, and biomass fuels; at the same time, leveraging the favorable policies of the Hainan Free Trade Port to expand and strengthen the import and export business of timber raw materials.
