For a long time, China has been one of the world’s leading suppliers of wooden doors, with its export volume far exceeding its import volume. The structure of its import‑export trade reflects that China’s wooden door industry boasts a well‑established production and manufacturing system and strong international competitiveness.
In 2025, China’s imports of wooden doors totaled US$6.95 million in value and 199.67 tonnes in volume, reflecting a trend of declining volume but rising prices. Meanwhile, exports reached US$789 million in value and 391,800 tonnes in volume, showing a pattern of increasing volume but decreasing prices. The export value was 113 times the import value, underscoring the robust international supply capacity of China’s wooden door industry. In terms of product mix, both imports and exports were dominated by non‑tropical wood doors, accounting for 99.75% of import value and 97.97% of export value. Geographically, imports were highly concentrated in Europe—primarily Germany and Italy—while export markets were more diversified, with Asia, North America, and Europe serving as the main destinations; the United States, the United Kingdom, and Hong Kong ranked among the top three. Overall, China’s wooden door trade exhibits the typical characteristics of “high‑end imports, large‑volume exports, and a clearly defined product structure.”
1 Import Trade
1) Import scale.
In 2025, China’s wood door import trade exhibited a trend of declining volume and rising prices. Specifically, the import value increased from US$3.9176 million in 2024 to US$6.9499 million in 2025, representing a growth rate of 77.40%, while import volume fell from 233.65 tonnes to 199.67 tonnes, a decrease of 14.54%, as shown in Figure 1. In recent years, leading domestic enterprises have continuously enhanced their manufacturing processes, environmental standards, and levels of intelligent automation, leading to the substitution of imported products with domestically produced alternatives. Moreover, Chinese customs authorities have strengthened quarantine inspections for imported timber and wood products, conducted rigorous species identification, and implemented stringent measures to control harmful organisms, thereby further raising import barriers and costs and resulting in a contraction of overall import volumes. The import market is dominated by high-end, custom‑made luxury brands from Germany and Italy, which command high unit values; consequently, the import structure has shifted toward higher-priced, smaller‑batch shipments, reinforcing the pattern of declining volume and rising prices.

2) Import market.
In 2025, China’s wood door import trade partners encompass 36 countries and regions. Among them, Europe accounts for 15 countries/regions, with an import value share of 91.67%; Asia comprises 14 countries/regions, contributing 8.16% of the total; North America includes 2 countries, representing 0.09% of imports; Oceania and Latin America each have 2 countries, while Africa has 1 country, with import volumes remaining very low.
Germany is China’s largest source of wooden door imports. In 2025, China imported 32.25 tonnes of wooden doors from Germany, with an import value of USD 5.3658 million, accounting for 77.21% of China’s total wooden door import value. Italy follows at 10.01%, Japan at 4.26%, and Switzerland at 4.21%, while other countries and regions account for 4.31%, as shown in Table 1.

3) Structure of imported products.
From the perspective of import product structure, in 2025 China’s imports of non‑tropical wooden doors will total US$6.93 million, with a volume of 192.47 tonnes; imports of tropical wooden doors will amount to US$17,100, with a volume of 7.20 tonnes. Table 2 presents the top 10 countries/regions by import value for both non‑tropical and tropical wooden doors, along with their respective shares.

2. Export Trade
1) Export scale.
In 2025, China’s wooden door export trade exhibited a trend of rising prices but declining volumes. Specifically, the value of wooden door exports reached US$789 million, down 2.27% from 2024 (see Figure 2), while export volume totaled 391,800 tonnes, up 9.39% year on year (see Figure 3). The primary reasons likely stem from cautious global demand for building materials in 2025, compounded by intensifying intra‑industry competition and tariff impacts in certain markets, prompting domestic wooden door manufacturers to prioritize volume over price. As the world’s leading hub for wood product manufacturing, China boasts significantly superior production capacity, efficiency, and supply-chain integration compared with most other countries, giving its wooden door exporters a natural competitive edge.

2) Major export markets.
In 2025, China’s wooden door export trade partners encompass 207 countries and regions. Among these, Asia accounts for 50 countries and regions, with the highest export value, representing 42.18% of the total; North America follows, comprising 3 countries and regions and accounting for 24.40% of total exports; Europe ranks third, with 36 countries and regions and a share of 20.78%; Africa includes 53 countries and regions, contributing 5.06% of total exports. Exports to Latin America (45 countries and regions) and Oceania (20 countries and regions) are relatively modest, accounting for 3.94% and 3.65%, respectively (see Figure 4).
Figure 4: Distribution of China’s Wooden Door Export Trading Partners in 2025
The United States is China’s largest export destination for wooden doors, with exports totaling US$150 million, accounting for 19.05% of the total; followed by the United Kingdom, with US$86 million and a share of 10.90%; and in third place is Hong Kong, China, with US$85 million and a share of 10.75%, as shown in Table 3.
China’s wooden door export market remains centered on Asia, North America, and Europe, with the United States, the United Kingdom, and Hong Kong ranking as the top three destinations. The advancement of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), coupled with robust infrastructure demand in emerging markets, is driving continuous expansion of export coverage and steady growth in overall export volumes.

3) Structure of export products.
From the perspective of export product structure, in 2025 China’s exports of non‑tropical wooden doors will total US$772 million, with a volume of 386,900 tonnes; tropical wooden door exports will amount to US$16 million, with a volume of 4,800 tonnes. The top 10 countries/regions by export value for both non‑tropical and tropical wooden doors, along with their respective shares, are shown in Table 4.
