On May 15, Wanning City convened a work conference to advance environmental remediation in the wood-processing sector, implementing the directives issued by the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government regarding the city’s wood-processing enterprises and the rectification of issues identified during environmental inspections. The meeting addressed pressing challenges in current efforts, outlined key priorities for the next phase, and sought to ensure that the industry’s remediation measures are carried out thoroughly and effectively. Ye Lihao, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
The meeting heard a detailed comparative analysis report on the progress of constructing the Damao and Hou’an wood-processing industrial bases, comprehensively reviewing the current status of planning and construction, environmental‑protection infrastructure, enterprise recruitment, and rectification efforts at both sites. During the session, relevant municipal departments engaged in in-depth discussions on key issues such as optimizing site selection for the wood-processing parks and streamlining environmental‑impact‑assessment approvals, systematically identifying bottlenecks and refining coordinated measures to advance these initiatives.
The meeting emphasized that ecological and environmental protection is a bottom line, a red line, and a lifeline. All levels throughout the city must firmly embrace and put into practice the development philosophy that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets,” discard any sense of complacency, and tackle the environmental remediation of the wood-processing industry with the most resolute attitude, the strongest measures, and the most pragmatic work style. All responsible units and local townships must stay focused on the core objectives of rectification, align themselves with the problem list, task list, and responsibility list, launch targeted efforts, eliminate any slackness or complacency, and ensure full and rigorous implementation of all remediation tasks. Each entity should fulfill its own duties and provide proactive support, removing obstacles to enterprise transformation in accordance with laws and regulations, optimizing land-use planning, expediting environmental impact assessment preparation, completing site clearance and relocation, and advancing necessary administrative procedures—thereby promoting industrial clustering and standardized upgrading. Furthermore, it is imperative to strictly adhere to legally prescribed procedures for shutdowns and remediation, firmly assign and enforce responsibilities across all parties, and advance, in a closed-loop manner, tasks related to rectification closure, park construction, and sector-wide improvement, so as to drive the green, standardized, and high-quality development of the city’s wood-processing industry through genuine and substantive reforms.
