For days now, the roar of machinery in the Hong’an High‑Tech Industrial Park has sounded like a clarion call for a strong start to the first quarter.

As soon as the reporter stepped into Hubei Ningfeng New Materials Co., Ltd., they were struck by the sprawling raw material stockpile—over a hundred acres in size. Towering “mountains” of wood, each more than ten meters high, undulated gently, while three excavator cranes with wide, iron claws carefully plucked timber from these “mountains.”

Look closely— the wood here is different: instead of the uniform trunks favored by traditional lumber mills, you’ll find branches of varying thickness and mixed tree species, some as thick as a bowl’s rim, others as thin as a thumb, all piled together in a jumble of local tree varieties.

“In the past, what ordinary people used as firewood scraps has now all become a precious resource here,” said the head of the factory area. Ningfeng produces ultra‑strong… Particleboard Thanks to a specialized manufacturing process that increases the number of layers in particleboard from three to five, the material boasts lightweight yet high strength, along with excellent moisture resistance and durability—turning scrap into a premium product. Each year, the factory “consumes” 1 million tons of edge trimmings and “produces” 700,000 cubic meters of high‑quality board, roughly half of which is supplied to local enterprises, truly earning its reputation as the industry chain’s “leading enterprise.”

As they spoke, Zha Che grabbed a handful of branches and tossed them into the log splitter. Thus began the wood’s remarkable journey: chipping, screening, drying, gluing, layering, and finally, feeding it into the 200-ton… Hot press —A 5‑centimeter‑thick layer of loose material is compressed into a dense board less than 20 millimeters thick. At the other end of the workshop, along a production line that stretches over 100 meters, the boards are “spit out” one after another, still warm from the manufacturing process. Turnover machine Turn them over to cool down, let them sit and cure for a day or two, then once they’ve fully “woken up,” return to sanding, sawing, and packaging. Within the tens of thousands of square meters of factory space, only a dozen workers shuttle back and forth conducting inspections—automation accounts for more than 85%.

“As the ‘chain leader,’ we have to get moving first before downstream furniture manufacturers can resume operations,” said the person in charge. The company fully resumed work on the sixth day of the first lunar month, with all 200 employees back on the job and producing more than 3,000 cubic meters of board material per day.

Just as they were talking, several large trucks loaded with sheet materials rolled out of the factory grounds, headed straight next door—to Jinpai Kitchen Cabinets. What had once been upstream and downstream enterprises had now become “door‑to‑door” neighbors.

Walking into the production workshop of Jinpai Kitchen Cabinets, the assembly line is running at full speed. A massive computer‑controlled saw precisely cuts the plain boards sourced from Ningfeng according to optimized computer‑generated blueprints, with tolerances kept to an extremely narrow range. Automated… Edge banding machine The drilling machines work in perfect harmony, with the robotic arm seemingly endowed with eyes, accurately and flawlessly delivering the workpieces to the next station. “This line employs just over 90 people per shift, yet it can produce 22,000 door panels a day—back when we didn’t have automation, we simply couldn’t manage that output with fewer than 170 to 180 workers,” the production manager counted on his fingers as he calculated.

Ningfeng and Jinpai, the two leading giants, kicked things off first, spurring the entire industry chain. As soon as the eighth day of the first lunar month passed, batch after batch of products—wooden doors from Qianchuan Doors and Windows, foam from Xinjiayuan, wires from Baoluo Cable—rolled off the production lines one after another, heading to destinations across the country.

Behind this bustling activity lies Hong’an’s years of steady, long-term development in the broader home furnishings industry. According to a responsible official from the Hong’an High‑Tech Zone Management Committee, the park has now attracted 259 enterprises in the broader home furnishings sector, including 90 large-scale enterprises. In 2025, the park is expected to achieve an industrial output value of 11.575 billion yuan for these large-scale enterprises, generate 636 million yuan in tax revenue, and create more than 20,000 jobs. From upstream board material processing and midstream custom home furnishings to downstream logistics and sales—a complete industrial chain has already taken shape.
