Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Commerce, the State Administration for Market Regulation, and three other departments jointly issued the "Work Plan for Steady Growth in Light Industry (2025–2026)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Plan"). The Plan clearly outlines measures such as optimizing supply, boosting consumption, maintaining international competitive advantages, improving the industrial ecosystem, and enhancing momentum for high-quality development, all aimed at driving steady growth, improving quality, and increasing efficiency in the light industry sector.
The plan will drive technological breakthroughs in areas such as smart home appliances and biomanufacturing, revise 10 mandatory national standards, establish a standardized system for smart homes and elderly care products, update 300 industry standards annually, and strengthen brand development for appliances, furniture, and other consumer goods—while supporting high-quality brands to participate in both domestic and international trade shows.
On the consumer end, the initiative promotes trade-in programs for appliances, kitchen and bathroom products, and more, while also encouraging the adoption of energy-efficient, smart products. It supports the growth of whole-house customization and age-friendly home renovations. Focusing on popular areas like healthy aging, the plan aims to boost the supply of functional furniture and smart home products. Additionally, it seeks to establish national standards for seamless connectivity, build experience centers, and expand multi-scenario service offerings.
In terms of internationalization, the plan proposes actively participating in the formulation and revision of international standards in key areas such as smart homes, accelerating the conversion of advanced domestic standards into global ones, and promoting mutual recognition of certification outcomes across borders. It also supports leading enterprises in industries like home appliances and furniture to speed up their global brand-building efforts, expand overseas marketing channels, and create internationally recognized brands.
The plan supports smart home appliances and the broader home furnishing industry cluster as they strive to reach world-class status, with a focus on developing green home products. It aims to drive new growth in the light industry sector—particularly in areas like smart homes, as well as products tailored for seniors and infants—from 2025 to 2026, while simultaneously boosting consumer spending and fostering industrial upgrades.
