Earlier this month, the Sanming Municipal Investment Promotion Center, in collaboration with investment promotion centers from three counties, formed a city‑county investment team and traveled to Hefei, Anhui, to conduct a specialized investment‑promotion mission. The delegation focused on areas such as the deep processing of bamboo and wood, engaged in targeted matchmaking efforts, and advanced the Hanlin project. Bamboo products The implementation of advanced processing projects has strongly propelled Sanming City’s bamboo and timber industry toward transformation and upgrading, emphasizing sophistication, branding, and internationalization.

Sanming City boasts abundant natural resources of bamboo and timber, a solid industrial foundation, and strong momentum for development. By 2025, the city’s annual timber output is expected to exceed 2.2 million cubic meters, with 170 million moso bamboo poles and 820,000 tons of bamboo shoots. To date, more than 4.5 million mu of high‑yield timber and bamboo production bases have been established, fully demonstrating Sanming’s manufacturing prowess as a key national base for the bamboo and timber industries.

In recent years, Sanming City has successively introduced a series of policy documents—such as the “Work Plan for Accelerating High-Quality Development of the Bamboo and Wood Industry,” the “Opinions on Accelerating High-Quality Development of the Bamboo and Wood Industry,” the “Bamboo and Wood Industry Chain Development Plan,” and the “Implementation Plan for Extending, Strengthening, and Completing the Bamboo and Wood Industry Chain”—to bolster the sector. By prioritizing project implementation, advancing technological innovation, and expanding market access, the city has put the bamboo and wood industry on a fast track of growth.

Turning policy dividends into tangible development outcomes hinges critically on robust project support. Sanming City has adopted a targeted approach to attracting investment and talent, accelerating the conversion of its resource advantages into industrial and project‑driven strengths. By establishing dedicated investment‑promotion task forces, building sector‑specific databases of prospective enterprises, and implementing “map‑based” precision outreach, the city plans to host 10 investment‑promotion events by 2025, secure 18 new key projects with a total investment of RMB 8.55 billion, and further strengthen its economic momentum. At the same time, leveraging external partnerships—such as the Shanghai–Sanming pairing and the Quanzhou–Sanming collaboration—the city has developed a “Sanming Direct Supply” model for bamboo shoot products, enabling more than 500 specialty agricultural items to enter key markets in Shanghai, Quanzhou, and beyond, generating over RMB 2 billion in sales. To expand international market access, the city has organized enterprises to participate in major trade fairs, including the Osaka Expo in Japan, the East China Import and Export Fair, and the Canton Fair, where they secured on‑site orders worth RMB 260 million and extended their reach to markets in the Middle East, Europe, and other regions.

Building on this foundation, Sanming City is focusing on cultivating new‑type productive forces and deepening its engagement in emerging industrial tracks, leveraging technological innovation and digital transformation to drive industrial upgrading and iteration. By 2025, the city plans to launch 204 industrial projects—totaling 46.4 billion yuan—in key new‑track sectors such as wood modification and advanced infrastructure materials. It is accelerating “intelligent transformation and digital upgrading,” developing the Yuanpei‑Huo Zhu Chain Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Internet Platform, and, with technical support from institutions like the Chinese Academy of Forestry and the International Bamboo and Rattan Centre, has overcome more than 80 critical technologies. The city is also promoting cutting‑edge innovations such as Tencel‑grade bamboo dissolving pulp, thereby enabling a strategic shift from simply “selling products” to delivering high‑end “technology‑ and service‑based value.”

Enhancing industrial quality and efficiency hinges on a favorable business environment and tailored enterprise services. For leading companies, Sanming City has implemented “one‑enterprise‑one‑policy” precision services, rolled out 20 supportive measures under the “bamboo‑for‑plastic” initiative, and secured 249 million yuan in special funds for the bamboo‑wood industry chain. The city has also crafted customized service packages for “chain‑leader” enterprises, conducted a comprehensive inventory of residual materials from 4.66 million mu of bamboo forests and over 200 primary bamboo processing firms, established 14 application scenarios for bamboo‑wrapped pipelines, and streamlined channels to match raw material supply with enterprise demand. In project development, the city has adopted full‑life‑cycle management, introduced measures such as completing forest‑use approvals on the first day, and continuously accelerated the expansion of industrial parks and the progress of key projects. Throughout the year, 16 high‑quality projects were launched, including the China Railway Construction Bamboo‑Based Zero‑Carbon Technology Industrial Park and Yangzhu Technology’s production facility for fully biodegradable bamboo‑fiber films, with total investment reaching 680 million yuan.

Under a series of targeted policies and sustained, long-term efforts to foster the sector, Sanming City’s bamboo and timber industry chain has become increasingly sophisticated, with the agglomeration effect of the industry continuing to strengthen.

At present, Sanming City has established a complete closed-loop system, spanning from upstream bamboo fiber production and midstream bamboo panel manufacturing to downstream bamboo furniture and bio‑chemical applications. Industrial clustering is taking shape, with 82 bamboo‑material physical‑decomposition sites and five specialized bamboo‑and‑wood industry parks now in place. Over 80 enterprises have settled in these facilities, and the city is home to more than 1,000 bamboo‑and‑wood processing companies, including 229 large‑scale enterprises. Furthermore, Sanming has cultivated 10 national-level leading forestry enterprises and 34 provincial-level ones. This fully developed and mature industrial chain provides robust support for the sustained, high‑quality growth of the city’s bamboo‑and‑wood sector.
